In the past, I wrote about The Hill Garden and Pergola and Chelsea Physic Garden. And today I will share a story of St Dunstan’s in the East.

St Dunstan’s in the East is a park with a medieval feel, but I am not talking about cemeteries. This secret park used to be a church until the Second World War afterwards only a shell was left of it. But thanks to the City of London Corporation the ruins of the church were transformed into a public garden. The gardens combination of old and new looks magnificent.

The garden was replanted last year, which must have been a challenge given its location within the roofless walls. Because of the level changes and the imaginative planting the garden feels larger. The garden is filled with a beautiful combination of palms, climbers, and evergreen shrubs together with small and fluffy wildlife.

This green island in a concrete city has to cope with a large footfall during work days, but has a nice private vibe on weekends. If you want to enjoy it in full I would recommend visiting it at the end of the week.

The garden is located near two other famous gardens. So if you are in the neighbourhood why not to check out Christchurch Greyfriars Church Garden or Postman’s Park.
