Red magazine and flower council Holland teamed up in order to create a botanical installation named Open Green House, which turned out to be a big success. This definitely inspired me and other attendees to add a bit of flora to our lives. After visiting I feel like I now know how my dream house would look.
This was an amazing and inspiring afternoon full of DIY tutorials, and lovely people. Let me show you around.
Up the stairs is where the beauty is hidden.
At the entrance we were given a goody bag with amazing treats inside. (Not to mention that the event itself was free.)
The main room was decorated by Sarah Keady, red magazine’s interiors editor, and featured a table designed for special events. I especially liked how a hint of fern can transform the space. She gave us a lot of useful tips on how to style your house with plans and where to source key pieces.
I liked her tutorial on how to make rustick looking napkin rings with fern.
The garden was dedicated to the flower pod and vase decoration tutorials. There is an infinite amount of styles you can go for when you do a DIY pod/vase. You can achieve a unique look just by spray painting your pods. If vases and pods are not your thing, then how about using corks as a container for succulents?
Another trend shown at the Open house – living walls. I saw a couple of those at flower shows, but never knew how easy it is to make your own. Ian Drummond from Indoor Garden Design explained the technique.
Enough of tutorials lets look at the house decor!
I felt happy and energized after the event and ready to add a bit more green to my life.
