It is so easy to create your own flower arrangement at home, so there is no need to just live with a floral design that does not feel right. It is a common thing among beginners to think that in order to succeed in the floral craft you need a formal training, but in reality, floristry is one of those fields where you can get great results by only knowing a few main techniques and by going where your inspiration takes you.

Traditionally floral wreaths were made on the wire frames with moss and everything else being wired into it, which is still the way many florists do it. But you can also make them with floral foam (OASIS) and it is an easier (and quicker) way to create one if you are not so used to wiring. So today we will be using floral foam.

1.) When designing with floral foam you will need to soak it properly first. Just leave it in a sink for about 10 min to allow it to soak up water. Don’t try to force water into it, this can create water locks (areas that do not have water in them).

In in order to keep you wreath alive for a couple of weeks keep your oasis moist, as it dries out it will start to suck water out of flowers and you don’t want this. You will need to top it up every 3-4 days.

1.2) If you plan to hang your wreath then you will need to tie a piece of ribbon to the floral foam before you start putting flowers in. I skipped this stage as I am not hanging my design, but using it as table decor.

2.) Then you will need to prepare your flowers. I suggest using a mixture of foliage, 3 or more types as it gives designs the natural garden feel. Cut your greenery into small pieces that are about 4-6 cm long in order to make a good use of your material.

3.) Insert your foliage in the wreath. I usually place some of it around the edge, some in the middle and a bit on the inner edge. Place it deeply for better security especially if you are planning to hang your wreath.

4.) Next, you insert the flowers. For this design, I picked a mix of tulips and roses. This design should last for about a week, if you want your design to last even longer you will need to use hardier flowers, no garden roses as their vase life rarely goes beyond 7 days.

5.) Check you creation and make sure that there are no gaps. Add extra greenery if needed.
